Case Western Reserve University, Tinkham Veale University Center

Steel Truss System | Cleveland, Ohio

The Tinkham Veale University Center is the newest addition to the University Campus, spanning 89,000 square feet and seeks to establish iconic architecture while unifying the campus physically and philosophically. The center is at the heart of the new campus and the design captures the spirit of its branding anthem, “think beyond the impossible”. The panoramic glass façade in particular makes the center feel like a bridge, not a barrier, between the east and west sides of campus. Sustainability and energy efficiency were also key factors in the design of the façade, as the façade is composed of a unique double-skin system, designed to minimize the energy use in both the winter and summer times. The cavity within the double-skin façade is ventilated with forced air which is controlled to vary the transfer of heat through the wall.
