Springdale Green

VetraSpan | Austin, Texas

Overview

Springdale Green is a 19-acre mixed-use development located right here in our hometown of Austin, Texas. Designed by renowned architectural firm Gensler, Springdale Green sought to harmonize modern design with the city’s distinctive cultural and ecological context. At the core of Springdale Green is a commitment to sustainability and the creation of a connected, vibrant community. Gensler’s design approach emphasized environmental responsibility, incorporating green building practices, efficient energy use, and sustainable materials throughout the project.

Located on the site of a former brownfield, the reimagined Springdale Green campus represents a new kind of office campus designed to attract the creative workforce with extensive outdoor amenities, newly restored landscape, and a focus on sustainability and wellness. The campus features two six-story office buildings on more than 19 acres of native meadows and woodlands including a 600,000-gallon rainwater cistern. Because of these, the intentional selection of materials and other climate action strategies, Gensler’s team of Climate & Sustainability consultants helped the client target LEED Gold and Austin Energy Green Building 3-Star. Springdale Green is Austin’s first sustainable SITES office campus landscape.

Campus Buildings 1 and 2 showcase Sentech Architectural Systems’ soaring 26-ft tall VetraSpan Series System. With zero opaque zones and no visible connections or hardware, this VetraSpan structural glass entrance system provides maximum transparency and is free from visual impediments. It seamlessly spans entire openings by joining panes along vertical joints, making it ideal for jumbo glass applications that embrace natural light and showcase the surrounding environment with seamless indoor-outdoor connectivity. This proprietary system can be used to design Facade Applications, Overhead Applications, Floor/Step-on Applications, and can even be applied to Blast and Bullet-resistant Applications. It can be used with insulated glass with any type of soft coating; this feature enables the design of walls and structures with the highest performance values.

Soaring, welcoming and sustainable, the beauty of Springdale Green is more than skin deep. The innovative technology and design features set a new standard for sustainability in East Austin.
